Julian, a 50-year-old divorced man struggling with money, uses a car-sharing app in Madrid. Álex de la Iglesia, known for his mastery of suspense and horror, seems to have taken a detour with “El cuarto pasajero,” which unfortunately falls into the category of predictable Sunday comedies. Despite its potential, the film lacks the originality and excitement that fans of De la Iglesias’ work have come to expect. The plot is straightforward and it’s clear early on how the film will end, leaving little room for surprises or commitment. The cast, including Blanca Suárez, Alberto San Juan, and Ernesto Alterio, are talented actors, but their performances are overshadowed by a script that doesn’t do justice to their abilities. It’s a wonder why they decided to take on a project that doesn’t fully utilize their talents. The film’s humor and romantic elements feel forced, and it lacks the wit that could have enhanced the narrative. In short, “El cuarto pasajero” is a forgettable entry in Álex de la Iglesias’ filmography, lacking the depth and creativity that usually characterizes his films. It’s disappointing to see such a talented director and cast in a project that doesn’t make a lasting impression.
